ask is a registered charity based in Steeple Ashton that supports Wiltshire's parents through the provision of information, advice and services. ask offer support on a range of issues from childcare and tax credits to out-of-hours activities and choosing a school.

The Requirement

ask needed to display a huge amount of information on an easy to navigate website that would be accessible to those with only basic IT skills. Offering numerous services to parents and carers it was imperative that visitors could quickly locate the information relevant to them. The site also needed to meet ask's obligations in terms of the Disability Discrimination Act and comply with accessibility guidelines.

The Solution

ask decided upon EasySite CMS because of its ease-of-use and the ability for non-technical authors to create and manage site content. The software also fully adheres to accessibility, interoperability and compatibility guidelines.

The Result

EasySite Directory Builder has been utilised across the site to enable ask to effectively manage the vast amount of information necessary to deliver their service. For example a Family Services Directory, searchable by different categories, gives contact details and a brief description of a range of services that are aimed at parents. In addition there are databases of activities, parent and toddler groups and childcare, searchable by area to return pertinent results to site visitors.

The use of additional EasySite functionality means that the site can be easily developed in the future to provide an extranet for registered users, discussion forums, quiz builder and polls. This will make the site a more interactive resource for visitors who will be able to contribute on a range of parenting and other topical issues.

Overall, ask have created a valuable resource for parents and carers in Wiltshire. The site holds a large amount of relevant information which has been categorised and displayed in a way that makes the information accessible, thus contributing to ask’s mission of supporting parents and carers.
