The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) provides Unscheduled Care and Patient Transport for 4.6 million people in an area covering approximately 6,425 square miles across the six counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The Requirement

EMAS had been successfully using EasySite software for 4 years to power its public website and staff intranet. However the two sites were hosted separately resulting in duplication of work should the same changes be necessary to both sites.

EMAS’ key aim was to bring the two sites together and give staff access to the intranet facility through a members’ only section of the website. They also wanted to make both sites much more visually appealing to visitors.

The Solution

Many of the features EMAS wanted to include came as part of the core EasySite V6 system and therefore it made sense to upgrade. Additional functionality was achievable with plug-in modules allowing EMAS to hand pick the software to meet their requirements.

EMAS were also able to make use of the standard restricted access functionality of the V6 core system to create the staff extranet resulting in just one copy of the software being used to power both sites.  In addition, EasySite also enables content authors to produce accessible pages compliant to the W3C guidelines.

The Results

Using EasySite V6, EMAS have improved their staff extranet providing a secure area for staff information, news and events.  On the public site simple navigation and search functionality has resulted in a site which is easily accessed by site visitors, whilst the Vacancy Module has enabled job vacancies to be displayed in a fully searchable database.

The site also provides a dedicated section on the Freedom of Information Act featuring a wealth of information including financial information, polices and procedures and environmental information. Downloadable documents are also available to site visitors.

Overall, upgrading the EMAS site to EasySite V6 enabled the service to fully meet their requirements, improving the experience for site visitors.
