North East Derbyshire District Council

The District of North East Derbyshire lies on the edge of the Peak District National Park, where the foothills of the Pennines meet the Midland plain. Covering 100 square miles, and with some of the most beautiful scenery in the Country, the District is home for almost 100,000 people and is a popular visiting place for ramblers and tourists.

The Requirement

North East Derbyshire District Council wanted to develop a website than provided a 24/7 comprehensive guide to the Council’s services and activities for all those who live in, work in or visit the District.

In addition to this the Council wanted to provide website visitors the opportunity to make enquiries about services, download Council documents and publications, and provide the Council feedback about their services.

The Solution

In September 2000, NEDDC chose EasySite CMS to manage their new website. Since using EasySite the Council has developed a website that provides their constituents with over 1,500 easily accessible and searchable pages of information.

Numerous members of staff within the Council are responsible for the continuous development of the website.

The solution enables Users without any previous technical knowledge to add, edit pages and determine the structure of the site.

EasySite's integrated moderation capabilities enables Administrators to have overall control of web content by email alerts of new or edited content which they can approve before it goes live on the site.

The Council have recently upgraded to the Community version of EasySite, which facilitates the creation of multiple websites within a single copy of EasySite. The Council now have the ability to form a number of ‘Micro-Sites’ for their partners within the commercial sector.

The Result

EasySite has enabled North East Derbyshire District Council to create a powerful resource of information, which is accessible by all 24 hours a day.

The website offers an extremely diverse range of information, from refuse collection details to the ability to pay bills online. The site also contains events listings, searchable councillors directory, online consultation documents, planning applications and decisions.

EasySite also assists the Council in meeting Government standards regarding compliance, accessibility and interoperability.
