Private Healthcare UK (PHUK) helps people make informed decisions about private healthcare services and providers by providing information and resources which are current, and comprehensive. The site embraces all aspects of private healthcare services, including private hospitals, private doctors and specialists, private medical insurance, cosmetic surgery, dentistry, and care of the elderly.

The Requirement

Private Healthcare UK was created in 1998 and their site http://www.privatehealth.co.uk/ was relaunched in 2005. As part of the relaunch PHUK needed a content management system (CMS) that would allow them to build and maintain their site internally.

The site content was to be authored by a large team with a wide range of IT skills, it was therefore essential that page creation was simple and user-friendly.

It was also important that the CMS allowed for version control and workflow capabilities. PHUK required a CMS that included a content sharing facility, allowing information to be shared across the site with only one point of editing.

Core to their requirement was also a CMS that would allow for fixed and predictable costs, as well as the potential for growth and expansion in line with changing business and market needs. In order to attract visitors to the site the CMS needed to have features built into the core system that would allow for search engine optimisation.

The Solution

Using EasySite CMS, the PHUK team had the ability to create, add and edit the structure of the site and pages within it. Designed with non-technical users in mind, all features are designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, allowing easy production of site content with minimal training. EasySite™ CMS separates site content from site style ensuring no matter who authors page content, all new pages adhere to the branding and page style designed for PHUK.

Using the EasySite Directory Builder module, PHUK was able to build powerful directories of private healthcare services across the UK. Separate databases were created for a range of services including private hospitals, cosmetic surgery clinics, infertility clinics, laser eye surgery clinics, health screening centres, diagnostic imaging centres, travel health clinics, cosmetic dentistry practices and psychiatric clinics. Once created databases could be added to an unlimited amount of pages across the site allowing visitors to search for services anywhere in the UK.

In order to provide further assistance to site visitors EasySite CMS was integrated with the Multimap mapping system. When a visitor searches a database on a particular service within a specified area, the results are returned along with a map detailing the location of each service provider. Site visitors not only receive the information they need, but also know exactly where the services are located.

The EasySite Form Builder module added even further interaction between the site and its visitors. Using the form builder PHUK was able to create an unlimited number of forms that can be used by site visitors to request more information, get a quote or request a call back. Once created forms could be added to any page on the site and emailed direct to the person or organisation that was best suited to respond to the request.

The Result

With over 170, 000 visitors per month, the PHUK site is a popular choice for anyone wishing to find information on a range of private services.

The site has over 1500 pages all designed and maintained using EasySite CMS. The site contains 29 searchable databases that assist visitors to find information on service providers in their areas. The site also contains 34 separate enquiry forms that can be completed by site visitors looking to request more information or receive a quote.

EasySite gives authors full control over page titles, meta data descriptions and keyword, meaningful URLs, Alt text as well as page content which all effect the sites ranking on search engines. With this functionality PHUK have been able to optimise their site ensuring they are ranked highly for many key phrases in major search engines. Currently the PHUK site ranks #1 for the term “private healthcare” on both Google UK and MSN UK.
