Sheffield City Council is the UK’s 4th largest Metropolitan Local Authority. Following a formal tender procedure, Sheffield chose EasySite Web Content Management System to power their new website and future Intranet. EasySite CMS for eGov met the council’s requirements in terms of flexibility, functionality, ease of use and value for money.
 
The Sheffield City Council website provides comprehensive information on the services and activities offered by the Council. The site is aimed at providing information that is of interest to local residents, workforce, school children and visitors.

The website, which currently consists of over 14,500 pages, allows visitors to search various databases including; a venue search for conferences, A-Z contact search for specific departments or services and a search regarding past or present planning applications.

 

It is also possible to search the entire website, provide feedback on the council’s services and download various documents.


The EasySite Content Management Solution allows authorised staff members to update and maintain the website through adding text, images and documents via any web-enabled machine, from any office location. Over 40 non-technical staff members maintain EasySite CMS within the council.
 
Current or prospective residents can view many aspects of the local education, for example:
 

  • School performances and links to Ofsted reports

  • Education budgets

  • Term dates and holidays

  • Catchment areas


 
There is also an ‘information for learners’ section, which gives advice on higher education, careers advice and student support.
